Nordic Roots at Hosmer Library

May 13 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

free

Kari joins a long line of fabulous musicians for a world music series on Saturday afternoons at Hosmer Library. This music series is free to the public and supported by the tax payers of Minnesota through Legacy and Heritage funding. Nordic root music starts with Kari’s interpretation the the oldest known tune written down in Scandinavia “Drømte mik en drøm i nat.” She works a drop spindle and layers vocals into a whirling chorus of rune spells and lokk (luring calls). She adeptly moves from Norwegian folk tunes to Finnish charms and even a Latvian prayer to the goddesses of birth from out of the pirts (sauna).

Cow horns, staff rhythms, and rune songs…you won’t want to miss this musical tour of the Northlands!

Kari sings Jygri (the mountain giant calls her children home)
