February 17 – Klippe Sauen; Shearing the Sheep
After over-wintering in the barns and just before the births of the lambs, the sheep are starting to get shaggy and in need of a clipping! Wool work is a deeply ancient way to connect with our Scandinavian ancestors. Everyone had to do some sort of work around wool whether it was carding, spinning, weaving, knitting, or felting. The Norwegian song, Klippe Sauen, gives verses and motions to all of this essential work. We will learn the song while we try our hand at it all!
Join Kari at Norway House – 913 E. Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55404 where you will sit together, hear stories, ask questions, and learn about how these rituals and seasonal activities can enrich our lives.
