February 17 – Klippe Sauen; Shearing the Sheep
After over-wintering in the barns and just before the births of the lambs, the sheep are starting to get shaggy and in need of a clipping! Wool work is a deeply ancient way to connect with our Scandinavian ancestors.
The Norwegian song, Klippe Sauen, gives verses and motions to all of the essential work: clipping, carding, spinning, balling yarn, knitting, and weaving. We will learn the song while we try our hand at some of it.
