The Norse Runes are more than just letters in an ancient alphabet. They are symbols with sounds, meanings, and stories that describe the ancient migrations into the the Nordic lands from the Ice Age to the present. Ru is the Sanskrit root of Indo-European runes and Finno-Ugric runos. The oldest complete alphabet (circa 300 ACE) is organized into three ætts (8 letter family groupings) with mythic connections to the Vanir, Aesir, and Jotuns of Norse mythology. They speak of things every Minnesotan can relate to: Birch, Lake, Cow, and Ice
The third ætt begins with the rune Tyr, pointing to the North Star. Tacitus, the Roman Historian talks about the female aspect of Tyr, Tiza or Isis…a goddess who holds the Earth and the underworld/rebirth cycle in her arms. Come explore the final “family” of runes!
Kari will help you translate your name into the runes, discover its meaning, and sound as you sing/chant it. We will also pay special attention to the four water runes: Estuary, Hail, Ice, and Lake.
Space is limited, so reserve your spot in the class today!
