The Elder Futhark 24 rune alphabet is the oldest known written evidence of the Germanic/Nordic pre-Christian mindset. Split into three sets or family groupings called ættr (pronounced eight-r), we will study one grouping each week.
We will create the shapes with our bodies while toning their sounds, translate our names, and learn to let them to advise us on our life’s course. Each of the 24 runes carries spiritual energy for healing and transformation.
Of particular importance in our time are the water runes: Ansuz, Laguz, Hagalaz, Isaz. We will sing a special water rune prayer song to support the efforts of water protectors locally and around the world. Runes
As with other ancient alphabetic systems, the runes are more than just phonemes or place-holders for sound. Their shapes, sounds, and meanings tell the story of early Indo-European migrations, their cosmology, metaphysics, community values, and much more. The runes manifest in Finno-Ugric culture as runos, Nature magical poetry.
