Urban Expedition: Iceland!
February 25 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
I am honored to join Tala Íslensku (Icelandic Language Class) and the Hekla Club (Icelandic Culture Club) in celebrating Icelandic heritage at the Landmark Center in St. Paul, MN. As a scholar of the runic alphabet and Old Norse Eddas, Sagas, myths and cosmology, my studies necessarily lead me to Iceland where the oldest roots of this pre-Christian heritage are preserved and honored.
There will be a focus on wool work and textiles and costumes and fashions from ancient times to today. You will learn about the unique geology that constantly informs the Nordic mind through relation to Ice and Fire, enjoy skits, stories, and songs from myths to folk traditions. There will be a Troll Hunt, Coloring and crafts to make, Live animals, Flora and fauna, Áfram Ísland – highlighting the upcoming World Cup football team and Food for purchase. Then, join me and Carol Sersland in a few traditional dances (no experience necessary) and the big the Viking Clap!
