Völva
StavVölva is a reclaimed word from Old Norse which means staff carrier. The women and men who were Völvas carried their healing, far-seeing, ceremonial, and magical practice throughout Scandinavia and the Baltic. We have learned about them through archeology, medieval texts (sagas and eddas) and the folk traditions, stories and songs that survived Christianization.
Pulling from this material and her life time of study and practice, Kari
Tauring has created the system of Völva Stav. Her Völva Stav
Manual, 2010, is available only through her Performance/Workshops, Master
Classes and Individualized Instruction.
