Visiting Völva

Völva Stav (est. 2003) is a system of sacred body geometry and toning in a Norse cultural context created by Kari Tauring. Runes, staff rhythm, and voice combine to create physical alignment with Norse cosmology, pathways for metaphysics, and as a tool for healing öorlog / ørlog and inherited cultural grief.

Völva (Old Norse): a woman who carries the staff for Nordic people. The staff represents the oorlog and wyrd, the history, traditions, healing, songs, stories, dances and rituals of the culture. Kari has reconstructed and practiced these reconstructed methods since 2003. She serves her family of origin as genealogist and story bearer. She serves the broader Scandinavian (Nordic) community as story teller, musician, dancer and teacher fusing the ancient concepts, symbol systems, and mindset to the folk traditions of her immigrant ancestors. She serves the greater heathen community in Minnesota and served Midwest Heathenry as volva elect from 2010 – 2015.

Völva Stav Guild (est. 2012) is four volur and four apprentices who use the Volva Stav method in the context of their professional healing work. The Guild produces three Nordic Women’s Retreats annually in the Twin Cities bringing in Nordic artists, philosophers, and healers to teach and share their talents and perspectives.
